V.Kovess Masfety est psychiatre et épidémiologiste. Elle a fait ses études de médecine en France et complété sa formation à l’université Mc Gill (Canada) où elle est professeure associée puis de retour en France obtenu un doctorat en sciences et une HDR. Elle a créé et dirigé une unité de recherche (EA 4069 « Épidémiologie , Évaluation et politiques de santé ») à l'Université Paris Descartes ainsi que la Fondation d’Entreprise de la Mutuelle Générale de l’Éducation Nationale (MGEN) pour la santé publique . Elle a été la directrice du département d’épidémiologie et de bio statistiques de l’école des hautes études en santé publique (EHESP) où elle est professeur honoraire. Elle a travaillé sur diverses enquêtes de santé mentale d’abord au Canada puis sur des populations adultes en Ile de France et dans plusieurs régions et sur des populations en difficulté sociale dont les sans abris à Paris . Elle a aussi conduit des enquêtes sur les jeunes enfants  à partir des écoles primaires en Région Paca  et dans plusieurs pays européens. Elle a par ailleurs travaillé sur l’utilisation des services pour les problèmes de santé mentale et tout particulièrement les différences d’accès entre hommes et femmes ainsi que la consommation de psychotropes ,y compris chez les enfants, en France et en Europe. Elle est l’auteure de nombreuses publications internationales et l’éditeur d’une revue internationale sur l’épidémiologie psychiatrique  (SPPE) ; elle a été jusque récemment la présidente de la section épidémiologie santé publique de l’association mondiale de psychiatrie et assure celle de l’APAQESM qui a pour objet la qualité des soins en psychiatrie avec un intérêt spécifique quant au rôle de l’architecture dans cette discipline. Elle est la présidente du comité évaluation prospective au haut conseil à la santé publique (HCSP) et a présidé l’évaluation du plan psychiatrie santé mentale 2011-2015.

Viviane Kovess Masfety is a psychiatrist and epidemiologist. After finishing her medical studies in France, she completed her training at McGill University in psychiatric research and transcultural psychiatry and she is actually a McGill adjunct professor. She co created the Psychosocial research Unit at Douglas Hospital (Montréal) where she was a FRSQ researcher for years working on mental health epidemiologic surveys. She is the author of various international publications and the editor of an international review of psychiatric epidemiology (SPPE). Her fields of interest are : psychiatric epidemiology methodology, urban/rural comparisons, services research, international and European comparisons, among them gender and school children mental health. She was for years the President of the Public Health Epidemiology section in the World Psychiatric Association, and a guest professor at the Mailman School of Public Health in Columbia University. She is the PI in a EU funded report on mental health in the European Union (ESEMED) which is the European part of a worldwide consortium of survey leaded by R.Kessler (Harvard and WHO) , where she was leading the religion and use of care work group . She has been the head of the epidemiology and biostatistics department at the EHESP (Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Santé Publique) and now an emeritus professor and the head of a PhD students supervisor at Paris Descartes University (EA4069) “Epidemiology, Evaluation and Health policies”. She leaded a governmental expert group on stress and mental health and has been the designer of the French plan for Mental health and Psychiatry in France. She is actually a member of the French Haut Conseil en Santé Publique (HCSP) an institution, which aims to advice health policies in France where she headed the “evaluation prospective “ committee and recently chairs the evaluation of the plans for mental health and suicide in France. She is the author of many scientific papers and books.
